Our Story

Greetings! My name is Sumina.

My husband Christian (who is French-Canadian) and I have two sons, Mikael (Kindergarten) and Luke (1st Grade), who are currently enrolled in the French Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) at Altadena Arts Magnet Elementary (AAM).

It has been a great joy to see their education and language quality improve over the last three years. Observing first hand the dedication of parents, talented teachers, and staff to this school has inspired me to become more involved.

During the pandemic, I was blessed to find highly qualified and dedicated French teachers to teach a very small learning pod at my home.  The result was increased interest from other French families within our local school because of our positive and beneficial experience. I have explored expanding this program to not only service a few families but possibly a dozen more.

My aim is to provide a French learning environment locally to enhance our children’s understanding of the French language as well as its culture. I believe our children have tremendous potential and having a creative environment can only improve their success.

Our 2021 Summer Programs (in-person & virtual) are for families who want to strengthen their children’s French and help prepare them for the upcoming Fall. The programs will make learning fun for the kids by teaching them French through situations authentic to their lives instead of strict grammar instruction.

In the Fall, we will be able to serve up to 14 children in our French Immersion after-school program at a center located near AAM. In addition, we will have plenty of enjoyable French Immersion programs for preschoolers in the mornings and French cultural activities and events in the evenings and over the weekend.

Please note that our learning center is not affiliated with the AAM French DLIP and is open to all families. However, it is my dearest hope to serve the students and families in the AAM French DLIP community. This project is personally financed and needs tremendous help and support from parents who wish to join this endeavor.

Please reach out to me if you are interested as I’m excited to work with you. Let's help provide increased cultural activities for our kids and provide an education that will last their entire lives!

I encourage you to come by and say "Bonjour!"

Sincerely,

Sumina
