Our Story
Hello, my name is Sumina, and welcome to Petite Library Foreign Language & Culture Immersion Center. It’s a supportive learning environment inspired by the dedication observed first-hand of the parents and teachers at the school of mine and my French-Canadian husband’s two sons Mikael and Luke - the Altadena Arts Magnet Elementary (AAM).
After being motivated to become more involved, I was very fortunate to find talented and passionate teachers to create a small French language learning pod in our home during the pandemic, and the response we got was amazing! Since then, we’ve grown fast and we now offer a wide range of French, Korean, and English language & culture tuition to people of all ages and skill levels in a fun, classroom-based setting.
Our fully qualified teachers follow a TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) inspired curriculum, as we know that the contextualized way in which the vocabulary is taught using this method, is the most fun and effective way to learn language & culture without having to live in the country in question.
We’re on a mission to foster a love of language that will stay with our students for a lifetime, and our immersion programs are designed to help develop an appreciation and a better understanding of how other people live in other countries and communities. What’s more, our small class sizes ensure that each and every student gets what they need to develop their language proficiency.
So, if you’re someone with a multicultural background, a multilingual family or you’re simply wanting to learn a new language in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere, we’d love to hear from you. Please do reach out if you’re interested, which you can do by emailing us or joining us on social media.
Or why not come by and say Bonjour, Hello or 안녕하세요 in-person today?
“A language is not just words. It's a culture, a tradition, a unification of a community, a whole history that creates what a community is. It's all embodied in a language.”
- Noam Chomsky
